Head In The Clouds

I’m going to premise this blog by saying I watched just as much Balloon Boy coverage as anyone else yesterday.

That being said, what is it about completely worthless news that will grip the world’s attention?  If it’s not Jon and Kate Plus 8, it’s a monkey that can smoke a cigarrette or a balloon that didn’t have a boy in it.

It makes me wonder, if our country spent half as much time on health care as it did on Balloon Boy, what kind of reform bill would we have?  I’m not saying we have to spend all our time wringing our hands about policy, and I’m not saying we shouldn’t entertain ourselves, but we seem far too eager to focus on the worthless and far too quick to dismiss what’s important.

Maybe that’s why politicians get away with so much corruption, we’re all too busy staring at the coulds.
